Tampa Restaurants That Have Closed

Fifteen places still sitting on live "best of Tampa" lists are gone. Here they are with dates, plus the few that moved rather than closed and where their food ended up.

Fifteen Tampa restaurants and bars on this page have closed, and every one of them is still being recommended somewhere. We found them while building this site, because you cannot publish a city guide without checking whether the places in it are open.

Most guides quietly drop a closed restaurant and move on. We think the closure is worth publishing on its own. A closed restaurant is the most common wrong answer in local search, and if we already know, saying nothing helps nobody.

Seminole Heights

Ella's Americana Folk Art Cafe, 5119 N Nebraska Ave, closed 1 September 2024 after fifteen years. The folk art on the walls went to auction three weeks later. Its old web address now serves a gambling site, so do not go looking for it.

Nicko's Fine Foods, 4603 N Florida Ave, closed after six decades. It was Tampa's last classic prefabricated diner and the place Elvis ate after a 1956 concert. The building is Chop Chop Shop now.

3 Dot Dash Vegan Kitchen, inside the Jug & Bottle Dept. at 6203 N Florida Ave, closed in December 2024. It was the neighborhood's only fully vegan kitchen, and it is still listed as current on more than one Tampa vegan roundup.

Nebraska Mini-Mart, 4815 N Nebraska Ave, last day 30 March 2025, after more than six years.

Southern Brewing & Winemaking, 4500 N Nebraska Ave, closed in August 2026 when Brian and Kelly Fenstermacher retired. The homebrew shop opened in 2008 and the brewery followed in 2011.

Ybor City

Crowbar, 1812 N 17th St, played a sold-out goodbye on 1 August 2026 after twenty years. It was Ybor's last independently owned full-time music venue. Owner Tom DeGeorge pointed at the pandemic's financial damage and large entertainment companies moving into the market, and has said he hopes to open somewhere else.

La Tropicana Cafe, 1822 E 7th Ave, opened in 1963 and never reopened after the 2020 shutdown. It was the Cuban coffee counter every campaigning politician stopped at.

Black Radish Grocer in V.M. Ybor says it plainly on its own homepage: permanently closed, after five years. That also takes with it the Tampa outpost of House of Vegano, which operated inside it.

The Florida Cane Distillery closed its Eighth Avenue tasting room in January 2024, open since 2016. The distillery itself still exists; the room you could walk into does not.

Downtown and the Heights

The Hall on Franklin, 1701 N Franklin St, opened in 2017 and closed in the first weeks of the pandemic. The building has sat empty since and is now being redeveloped as 1701.

Anise Global Gastrobar, 777 N Ashley Dr across from Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, closed for good on 14 September 2019 and is still on downtown roundups seven years later.

South Tampa

Haven, 2208 W Morrison Ave, closed for good on 21 May 2026. Bern's Steak House Group is replacing it with Peddler + Potter Oyster House, targeted at fall 2027. When we checked in September 2026, the Epicurean Hotel's own dining page still described Haven as operating.

Ciro's Speakeasy and Supper Club, 2109 Bayshore Blvd, is gone. Its own site is now a single line: it is not goodbye, it is simply until we meet again.

Goody Goody Burgers closed its Hyde Park Village dining room on 29 September 2024. This one is the sharpest example of why this page exists. The closure is announced at the top of the restaurant's own homepage, and that same page still publishes machine-readable business data giving the closed location's street address and phone number. A person reads the notice. A search engine or an AI assistant reads an open restaurant.

Elsewhere in the county

Ballyhoo Grill in Citrus Park, 7604 Ehrlich Rd, is closed. Florida Cracker Fish Company is taking the building.

Moved, not closed

Al's Finger Licking Good is open. It moved into the soul food shop at 2302 E 7th Ave, and four different guides still print the old Angel Oliva Senior Street address.

Kojak's House of Ribs left South Tampa. Bud Forney opened it in a 1927 house at 2808 W Gandy Blvd in April 1978 and the family ran it there for 43 years, until it closed on 1 August 2021 to make way for apartments. They reopened in Seffner, which is outside what this site covers. Any list still sending you to Gandy Boulevard is stale.

Craft Kafe now lists only St. Petersburg locations.

Where the food went

Three of these have a forwarding address. The Goody Goody P.O.X. burger and butterscotch pie moved onto the menu at Columbia Cafe on Water Street from 1 October 2024. Holy Hog BBQ's founder Danny Hernandez is the pitmaster at The Brisket Shoppe, which now occupies the old Holy Hog site on N Armenia Ave. And Ciro's sister bar Jekyll is still open in Hyde Park.

Two we will not call closed

Mermaid Tavern on N Nebraska and Mekenita Cantina on N Florida both look closed. One has a Yelp listing titled closed and a site that turns away every automated request; the other has a parked domain. Neither is good enough to publish as a fact, so we have not. Neither is listed as open here either.
